Last week's program featured newly appointed Executive Director for the McDowell-Sonoran Conservancy, Justin Owen and Interim-Executive Director, Paul Staker. Justin and Paul provided us with an excellent overview of the Conservancy from its inception in 1991 to the present, and addressed numerous questions from SSRC members including the very hot topic of the Desert EDGE, formerly known as the Desert Discovery Center, which while the Conservancy agrees with the concept, they would not want it to be built inside the Preserve or consume any funds dedicated to the Preserve.  Numerous educational activities and options for all individuals to experience the Preserve were discussed.

This week's program takes us to McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, and the opportunity to meet in the restored Pullman car near the Indian Bend Road entrance.  Bill Bergdoll will have the program, and will provide details to help make our Special Day for Special Kids (SDSKs) a huge success on Saturday, 2/24/2018. If you have not signed up for a special activity for SDSKs, please come to McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park by 9:00 AM on Saturday and we'll find a job for you. Please wear your SDSKs polo shirt, and plan to park at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Mockingbird Drive, just north of Lincoln Drive. Our shuttles will take you to and from the park. Parking at the park is for guest only.
