As the Rotary year winds down, we have a number of things that we accomplished this year and should be proud of Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary.

  • Added six new members as of May 2019:  Zack Smith, Lisa Winslow, Kathy Lane, Ken Kaplan, Ed Gonzales and Alli Roth.  We still have Jesse Colter, Lauren Wheeler, and Jake Tavrytzky looking at the club.  Unfortunately we lost three: Lenny Teischer, Rick Jacobs, and Barbara Balkin.
  • Achieved our EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year) goal of a $100 donation per member to Rotary Internationa.
  • Contributed $1,000 to Polio Plus Fund.
  • Contributed $500 to Desert Mountain Interact for Crutches for Africa.
  • Provide a $400 scholarship to, Amigos de Guatemala for Sandra Rodriques who we have sponsored the last few years.
  • Our International Project in Rwanda is close to wrapping up.
  • Joined forces with Club Rotario Mar de PeƱasco,  to provide some play ground equipment in Rocky Point, Mexico.
  • Continue to sponsor two Interact Clubs, Saguaro and Desert Mountain.
  • Working weekly at Vista del Camino to distribute bread to those in need, thanks to everyone who give up their Tuesday morning for this great event.
  • Assisted this year on the Back to School Program with Vista del Camino with the distribution of items and then packing up the what was left.
  • Provided a $5,000  donation from the Club to TRVFA (The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona).  We interviewed a number of candidates for approval to receive a grant.  Thanks to the Club members who donate their Arizona Tax Credit to TRVFA.
  • Can't forget our third grade Dictionary Project distributing dictionaries to five Scottsdale Elementary Schools.
  • Contribution of over $1,000 to the Alli Ortega Empty Bowls event as well as giving a $10 donation to any club member who attended to use in the purchase of a bowl.
  • Building bicycles and providing helmets for Vista del Camino's Holiday Program.
  • Don't forget the garage sale and all the fun we had.
  • Great Holiday Party and October Club Social to just get to know each other better, as well as meeting the spouse of our members.
  • Who could forget our Whiffle Ball Tournament with Miracle League, we even won a game this year.
  • Our 34th Annual Special Day for Special Kids was a great success with around 2,800 in attendance for the fun filled day.
  • The Golf Tournament held this year at Ancala Golf Club provided a great golf venue, lots of Silent Auction items, and another social activity.  Clark was a great chairman.  A special thanks to our Canadian visitors for the great success of this event.
  • A great outing at Spring Training watching the D-Backs and Cubs.
  • Helped Raising Special Kids celebrate their 40th Anniversary with a great party.
  • Sent a student to RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy)
  • The SSRC Vision Care Foundation did a $250 sponsorship the Miracle League's annual Casino Night.
  • Keith Walter attended PETS (President Elect Training); Craig Rethwill attended Grants training, Dave Lewis, Craig Rethwill and Kathy Lane attended CLA (Club Leadership Academy
  • District Conference is late June and we expect to receive the District Achievement Award.
  • Our last meeting in June will be a Club Assembly to install Keith Walter as our new President for the 2019-20 year.
We've had a great year, lots of events, great socials, supported the community, and played a roll in international projects.  Looking forward to another great year with Keith Walter at the helm.
